ABSTRACT In this paper, we present a robust filtering algorithm for image processing that provides preservation of fine details, impulsive noise removal and multiplicative noise suppression by means of use of DSP TMS320C6701. The designed filter is the consequential connection of two filters. The first filter (RM-KNN type) realizes the preservation of fine details by means of the use of the redescending M-estimators combined with the Wilcoxon estimator to provide impulsive noise rejection. The second filter (M type) uses the first filter to provide multiplicative noise suppression. Finally, the outputs of these filters are mixed similarly to the Lee filter. The proposed filter demonstrated excellent fine detail preservation and noise removal ability.
