ABSTRACT

The hot-rolled aluminum coil is usually heat treated in an annealing furnace to improve its metallurgic structure and eliminate the inner stress. A numerical model companied with in-site experiment was developed in this work to simulate the thermal behavior of coil in the annealing furnace. Baffle of zero thickness and tunable thermal resistance was used to simulate the effect of air gap on the thermal conductivity in the radial direction of coil. Good agreement was achieved between the predicted thermal results and measured data. The simplifications made in the model development had also been examined and proven to be appropriate against the flow volume of circulating fans and the surface temperature evolution of aluminum coil.
