ABSTRACT

The numerical computations of double-diffusive convection were carried out at the Prandtl number Pr=0.01, the Lewis number Le=100, the aspect ratio A=2, the Rayleigh number Ra=104 or 106 and various buoyancy ratios N for a two-layer system which consists of a pure liquid (upper layer) and a solution (lower layer) with lateral heating and cooling. Two-layer changed to one-layer with time at N=0 and 2 and the concentration became almost uniform. However, the concentration was slightly distributed near the walls and in the core probably due to the insufficient computational time. The concentration distribution in the core existed for a long time.
