ABSTRACT

An overview is made of unsteady buoyancy-driven convection in a rectangular enclosure at large Rayleigh number and of aspect ratio O(1). The thermal boundary conditions at the vertical sidewalls are time-periodic. Recent advances in computational capabilities are reviewed. The prominent unsteady heat transfer characteristics are described. Numerically-obtained flow and heat transfer characterizations assist in the understanding of resonance in the context of buoyant convection.
