ABSTRACT

A three-dimensional numerical model of flow and heat transfer over louvered fin arrays in compact heat exchangers is discussed. This model takes into account the effects of the fins' non-louvered regions in the immediate vicinity of the tubes. A detailed comparison between the predictions of this model and the model that does not take into account these effects is presented. It is pointed out that taking into account these effects leads to a reduction of the friction factor and the overall heat transfer rate. Predictions of the new model are in a better agreement with experimental data when compared with the previously suggested models.
