ABSTRACT

Computer simulation and theoretical analysis of temperature and air flow velocity were carried out in order to develop a design scheme for cooling inverters in electric-trains utilising draft air flow under the train floor. First, the circuit model was derived for predicting unsteady temperature distribution in the power unit. Next, theoretical equations for predicting local velocity within the heat sink were derived. The local velocity derived from these equations agree well with that from the CFD and experimental measurement.
