ABSTRACT

A validated numerical model of a high temperature, high pressure, ceramic heat exchanger was constructed using a commercial fluid dynamics package. The ceramic heat exchanger, called the UHX, indirectly heats high pressure process air or steam by a natural gas fired burner. As well as enhancing experimental data, the model gave useful insight into the heat transfer phenomenon occurring within the unit, and indicated possible methods of augmenting heat transfer in industrially sized units.
