ABSTRACT

The results of experimental investigations of relations between turbulent flow structures and heat transfer process on a flat surface are reported. A special attention is paid to relations between turbulent fluctuations of velocity and pressure with distribution of heat transfer coefficient and its fluctuations. The impinging jet heat transfer was used because of a very complicated structure of turbulence in such geometry of the flow.
The constant temperature anemometry technique was used to velocity and heat transfer measurements. The high frequency pressure transducer was used to measure pressure fluctuations.
Measurements indicated that distributions of velocity and pressure fluctuations do not coincide so well in flow regions where large scale structures of turbulence occurred. The radial distributions of pressure fluctuations are in good agreements with heat transfer fluctuations, better than velocity fluctuations. It suggests that pressure fluctuations rather than velocity fluctuations play a dominant role in determining fluctuations of heat transfer fluctuations.
