Nevin Selcuck Nuray Kayakol ABSTRACT Discrete Transfer model was applied to the predictions of the radiative heat flux density and source term of a box-shaped enclosure problem based on data reported previously on a large scale experimental furnace with steep temperature gradients typically encountered in industrial furnaces. The rectangular enclosure under consideration has interior black walls and an absorbing-emitting medium of constant properties. The predictive accuracy of the model was evaluated by comparing its predictions with exact numerical solutions produced previously for the same enclosure problem. The comparisons show that the model provides radiative heat flux and energy source term distributions in close agreement with the benchmark solutions. Evaluation of the accuracy of the Discrete Transfer model against exact solutions on a rectangular enclosure problem with the steep temperature gradients is not available to date. |
