A. Prasinos J. Kubie ABSTRACT Outflow of liquids from single outlet vessels is examined. In such vessels the liquid leaving the vessel through the outlet is replaced by a lighter fluid which enters the vessel through the same opening. The lighter fluid can be either liquid or gas. A model describing the behaviour of liquid-liquid systems is developed. It is shown that this model is in reasonable agreement with experimental data. The model is also compared with a recently developed model for gas-liquid systems and the two models are discussed. It is shown that even though the two models are based on different physical principles, they both suggest that the void fraction of the lighter phase in the vessel is a linear function of the elapsed time for both extremes of two-fluid systems. This is in agreement with experimental results. |
