ABSTRACT

The dynamics of the flow in two layered systems heated from the side is investigated both when the fluids are viscoinelastic and viscoelastic. The system is two dimensional and confined to a box of low aspect ratio in reduced gravity. Interfaces are assumed to be flat. The free top surface is taken to be insulated together with the bottom wall. Results are reported for both high and low values of the interfacial Marangoni number when a low Prandll number Newtonian fluid in the lower layer is encapsulated by a high Prandtl number viscoinelastic or viscoelastic fluid in the top layer.
