ABSTRACT

A generalized model for the prediction of droplet velocity in liquid-liquid dispersions has been established. The equation is based on a empirical correlation for single drop movement and takes into account for swarm effects taking pattern from solid particle fluidized beds. Additional a new approach has been elaborated to calculate flooding rates in countercurrent spray columns using the new swarm model. The proceeding described below leads to a generalized flooding diagram. The derived correlations have been validated for a wide range of operating variables collecting a database containing over 500 experimental datapoints. The new approach promotes the comprehension for the fundamental processes in multi-particle systems and is superior over models published.
