ABSTRACT

Some applications of the boundary element method to linear and nonlinear viscous flow problems are reviewed. We conclude that the method is useful in (1) linear problems; creeping and Oseen flows; (2) medium to high Reynolds number flows; and (3) flows with nonlinear material (or rheological) properties. Finally, we note that external flows and flows with free surfaces are often treated very economically using the boundary element method.
