ABSTRACT

This chapter contains a review of the literature and results of penalty-finite-element analysis of two-dimensional natural convection (i.e., coupled conductive and convective heat transfer and fluid flow). The penalty function formulation of the equations governing steady, laminar flow of incompressible viscous fluids is presented and the associated finite-element model is described. Numerical results for a number of sample problems are presented and discussed.
