ABSTRACT

The present review is focused on summarizing major developments in modeling transport phenomena in porous media including several important physical phenomena in the past couple of decades. Non-Darcy effects on the momentum and energy transport equations in porous media are categorized. Other pertinent effects including variation of porosity, thermal dispersion, and local thermal non-equilibrium between the fluid phase and the solid phase are covered as well. In addition, applications of porous media as related to medical and electronics cooling applications are also covered. The medical applications include drug delivery, tissue engineering, treatment of solid tumor and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
