ABSTRACT

The development of the Virtual Reality (VR) techniques for visualization of the computational simulations of complex problem has opened some new avenues for heat transfer and fluid flow research. The importance of data visualization is clearly recognized for the presentation of these data sets to better understand the 3-D nature of the flow fields. The present work deals with 3-D visualization of the data of impinging single square laminar jet on a heated flat surface, obtained from numerical simulation through the solution of three-dimensional Navier-Stokes and energy equations in steady state. The structure of the flow field is investigated numerically and visualized by using VR. The simulations have been carried out for nozzle to plate distances between 2-6 jet widths and the Reynolds number within range of 100-500. A software is developed to visualize the flow field with high performance computing including advanced support for data presentation and navigation techniques. The visualization results of the flow field give a good agreement with the projection of the flow lines in that flow field. The complex nature of the flow which features peripheral vortices and wall jets has been illustrated in the simulations.
