ABSTRACT

Gas-liquid two-phase flow pattern is visualized for Isobutane in semi-circular tubes of 1.41 mm hydraulic diameter and height of 13.6 mm at heat flux ranging from 4.2 to 291.3 kW/m2 to the system. The evaporator is made of a copper half and a glass half, which have been glued together. The glass half enabled the visualization of the flow. In order to visualize the flow regime and measure the void fraction in the riser, a glass tube riser is used. To measure the void fraction in the riser a quick-closing valve method is used. Interesting phenomena, such as the possible occurrence of partial dryout and backflow is also discussed. The result from this experiment is compared with the available two-phase flow map for large diameter channel.
In order to investigate the influence of pressure level on flow pattern, different reduced pressures are used.
