ABSTRACT

We solve the ballistic-diffusive heat conduction equation to calculate the heat flux generated by a hot disk on a surface. The disk diameter is on the order of the phonon mean free path in the material. The thermal conductance between the hot disk and the semi-infinite body is ten times smaller than the one predicted by Fourier's Law when the disk diameter is equal to one half of the mean free path.
